TempTray Review – High Quality Food Warming Mat Or Just Overhyped

The idea that TempTray food warming mat can heat food in just 10 seconds and provide warmth for hours is really fascinating to see. They claim the device is not like the traditional food warmers or ovens because it can heat without overcooking or drying out the meals.

I found this food warming mat interesting because of its portability and quick heat feature. While it promises safety and peace of mind, there was still a doubt in me that the product could be a low quality food warmer.

In this article, I share my first impression, experience, limitations, value and verdict.

What is TempTray Food Warming Mat for?

TempTray describes itself as a smart food warming mat for keeping food warm at the perfect serving temperature. It is designed with an advanced electric heating technology that spreads heat across the surface.

The device claims it is made from food safe, non toxic silicone with a nano coated surface that resists oil and stains. Also, this food warmer can be used for family dinners, parties and occasions.

There are three temperature levels TempTray promises users which are 60°C, 80°C, and 100°C, and each of them is suited for different types of meals. For safety, it comes with an automatic shutoff system that allows it to turn off after 2 to 4 hours.

Expected Benefits of Using TempTray

The device has come to provide ease for families and friends which are instant warming, even heat distribution, smart temperature control, auto shutoff, oil resistant food mat and hold multiple plates at once.

First Impression

I found myself amazed at how different the TempTray was from a normal warming tray. It is not bulky, it is thin and flexible, so I can simply lay it on the table, plug it in, and set my dishes on it! The one thing I liked the most about it was being able to roll it up and put it away when I am done with it. I already have enough trays in my kitchen that space was an issue and would not have had to get one more large tray.

Interestingly, the silicone surface was easy to clean. It wiped down easily without a lot of effort, making the whole process more convenient. Its flexible design, easy storage, and easy cleanup options make it more convenient to me than some of the traditional warming trays I have used.

How To Use?

You will need to place the food warming mat on a flat, dry and heat safe surface first. After that, plug to an electric outlet to get the device working. Importantly, press ON and select the preferred levels (60°C, 80°C, or 100°C) based on your food type. Set the plates directly on the food warmer and allow to distribute the heat evenly.

Always keep clean after use.

Tested: What I Noticed with TempTray Food Warming Mat

This was very handy when we were not ready to eat at the same time. I could put food in the oven and forget to check it to see if it is cooked or dried out all day. I did not need to worry about leftovers drying out or cooking any further while others were preparing, I could just put the dishes on the mat and leave them there all day. But it does not maintain food at a scalding temperature forever. It is not a commercial kitchen, it is a warming mat. I found it to be useful, though, for keeping cooked food warm while eating a typical meal.

On the other hand, the company claims that it keeps heat going after being powered on and has an auto shut-off after about 2 to 4 hours (depending on the setting), which is more than enough for an average dinner. Temperature control was also important to me, since the aim is to maintain food at a warm temperature and not continue cooking it. There are three heat settings on TempTray with the specs stating that the temperature range is about 60C to 100C. I discovered that lower options make much more sense for food that is currently prepared and solely needs to maintain heat, whereas greater settings are more helpful when additional heat can be added to the food.

In general, I think TempTray is a transitional product between just cooked food and cold food. That is where I believe it is best.

Limitations

I have a couple of concerns with TempTray, most of all how some of the benefits are marketed. The “10-second quick heat” tagline is more catchy than the company’s detailed specification, which claims it takes less than 2 minutes to heat the mat. Not that this is always a negative connotation, but the advertising would be better to show what the product really does.

I also believe that proper expectations need to be set with regard to what a warming mat can achieve. Food can be kept warm with TempTray but not taste freshly cooked hours after cooking or undo any changes in texture, drying or overcooking that take place during the sitting time.

Lastly, the price seems to differ from one promotion or sales page to another. I have seen various promotional prices (like, a one unit offer, maybe $89.95 somewhere, but elsewhere I have seen lower promo pricing). This is why I would always look at the last price you will pay when using a discount, and not just the headline price.

Is TempTray Food Warming Mat Worth Buying?

I would definitely want to purchase TempTray again, as I certainly have had this happen often when I need to keep food hot while waiting for everyone to finish their meals! It is very flexible in terms of use, easy to store, simple to clean, adjustable heat setting and can serve the items at the set temperature.

I would not purchase with the expectation of rapid heating or restaurant quality, though, and I would look for the final price as the promotional pricing seems to fluctuate. However, during the day-to-day dining experience, the usefulness of such a product overcomes these restrictions, and I would be happy to make another purchase.

Conclusion

TempTray describes itself as a smart food warming mat for keeping food warm at the perfect serving temperature. It comes with different temperature levels suitable for varieties of meals. While the lower options make much more sense for food that is currently prepared and solely needs to maintain heat, the greater settings are more helpful when additional heat can be added to the food. However, the price seems to differ from one promotion or sales page to another. Nevertheless, TempTray is a transitional product between just cooked food and cold food.
